Hong Kong has 4 seasons in a year. Spring begins in March and Winter begins in November. Winter is chilly and windy, temperatures can go as low as 2-5 degrees celsius, while Summer is relatively hot and humid; the temperature can go up to around 32 degrees celsius.

The best season to visit Hong Kong will be in Autumn, which is from August to October. Sky is clear and the temperature is around 15 degrees celsius, and rain is rare.

Typhoon season usually lies around late summer to early Autumn. That brings along heavy rains and extremely strong winds. Typhoon signal will be announced by the Hong Kong Meteorological Department when a typhoon gets near to Hong Kong, and the signals are gauged in 1 , 3, 8 & 10. When Signal 8 is announced, all work and school will be put to a halt and everyone will have to return home for shelter. Normal activities will only resume when Signal 8 drops to Signal 3.

As Hong Kong has tall buildings everywhere, strong winds tend to channel into narrow gaps between buildings and its strength will therefore be multiplied. At Signal 8, you will see dustbins “flying” and umbrellas flipping, and you will occasionally see some fellow Hongkongers slipping and rolling on the ground. I strongly encourage you to stay indoors if you ever encounter a typhoon signal 8 in Hong Kong!
