Hong Kong Travel Guide from a local perspective

Tram

This is definitely the most affordable public transport in Hong Kong. It costs only HK$2 – one-way and regardless of the number of stops you travel. However, you can only find this in Hong Kong Island. It begins from the west region of Hong Kong Island – Kennedy Town to the East region – Shau Kei Wan.

Although it runs on one track, it does have a few “terminal stops” and U-turn points. Do look out for that.

Do not look down on its relatively slow speed and running on a fixed track. It can possibly outrun any above ground public transport during peak hours!!!

You can pay your tram fare using the Octopus card. Please take note that for this transportation, you need to board from the rear and alight at the front. Pay when you alight. Don’t get confused.

This form of transportation has been running on the Hong Kong Island for more than 100 years since 1904. For more information, check out the official website here.
